Waterfront dining in New England Our Favorite Waterfront Restaurants in New England ![]()
Whether seasonal or year-round, by the coast or inland, there's no denying the appeal of waterfront dining -- especially during the summer with the chance to dine outdoors. Here are a few of our favorite waterfront dining spots in New England -- not only by the ocean, but ponds, too: Federal Jack's, Kennebunk, Maine (pictured above) This brew pub and restaurant features amazing second floor views of the Kennebunk River, as well as scenic Kennebunkport on the other side. The seafood is fresh and local here, and we absolutely love the thick, creamy New England clam chowder. 8 Western Ave.. Tel. (207) 967-4322. Open year-round Abbott's Lobster in the Rough, Noank, Conn. ![]() A seasonal lobster shack, Abbott's serves some of the best lobster and lobster rolls around, made all that much better with the views of the ocean. We prefer the outdoor picnic-like dining, but Abbott's also has indoor seating with water views. 117 Pearl St.. Tel. (860) 536-7719. Seasonal, reopens in the spring; call for specific hours of operation. BYOB. Evelyn's Drive-in, Tiverton, R.I. ![]() Another seasonal coastal seafood shack that features fantastic outdoor and indoor views of scenic Nanaquacket Pond. Evelyn's serves lobster, clam cakes, Rhode Island chowder, fried clams and the most unusual, but ever-so-delicious lobster chow mein. 2335 Main Rd. Tel. (401) 624- 3100. Seasonal, reopens in the spring; call for specific hours of operation The 1761 Old Mill, Westminster, Mass. ![]() The Old Mill has an idyllic setting with a pond and waterfall, two covered bridges and a long front porch. The inside has a charming rustic atmosphere and the food is generally delicious, including prime rib, pot roast, chicken pie, Atlantic sea scallops and roast country duck. The Sunday morning brunch is extensive and features some amazing popovers! 69 State Rd. (Route 2A). Tel. (978) 874- 5941. Open year-round Lobster Hut, Plymouth, Mass. ![]() This extremely popular Plymouth Harbor restaurant is certainly no frills. You order at the counter and get your lobster served quickly. The indoor seating is almost cafeteria-like, but the real prize is the outdoor summer seating overlooking the beautiful harbor. Lots of fried plates, here, we prefer the lobster -- it's great and not too expensive! 25 Town Wharf. Tel. (508) 746-2270. Seasonal, closes late December, reopens in February; call ahead for specifics Warren's Lobster House, Kittery, Maine ![]() This huge, long-time favorite restaurant has been in business since 1940 and features an adjacent lobster house that holds up to 28 tons of lobster -- so you know you're getting it fresh here. The large, family-style dining room is quite comfortable with some terrific views of the southern tip of the Maine coast. Along with the lobster and water views, the wide variety of fresh seafood, 60-plus item salad bar and outdoor summer dining deck help create an extremely popular dining destination. 11 Water St. Tel. (207) 439-1630 Open year-round. . ![]() ![]() Follow me on ![]() |
