An Unlikely Story bookstore, Plainville MA

"Diary of a Wimpy Kid" author Jeff Kinney just opened an indie bookstore in Plainville called An Unlikely Story. The bookstore is fine with a good selection of books, a cafe and wonderful ambiance, but what I like most about its presence is that it starts to bring downtown Plainville back to its original luster. It takes over Falk's Market which, for many years, served as a beloved community anchor of the downtown district but then closed and fell into blighted disrepair. Long-time Plainville resident Kinney had a vision for contractors to handsomely restore the block with some relevant historic recreations of the original building and that is exactly how it turned out. With an Unlikely Story, the classic Don's Diner dating back to 1936, an old time pharmacy and a great downtown park, the central district suddenly seems interesting and worth a visit.

Not sure if it is a trend for authors to open bookstores, but glad to personally witness the recent rise of indie bookstores in the area. That's the way it used to be and glad the comeback is in place!
