Federal Jack’s in Lower Kennebunk Village, Maine, really doesn’t fall into the “cheap eats” category, but you can still dine affordably at this popular southern coastal

Maine restaurant. That’s a good thing as Federal Jack’s is hard to pass on, given its outstanding second-floor water views of the Kennebunk River and its location just a few hundred yards from beautiful Dock Square in Kennebunkport.

We suggest going with a bowl of creamy, flavorful New England clam chowder. It’s full of clams and is really a meal in itself. The price, at this writing: $7.99.  Add a club soda with lemon and you’re around $10.

Of course, you could spend more for a sandwich or full dinner at Federal Jack’s (and keep in mind this is an outstanding brew pub, too!), but dining on a heaping portion of New England clam chowder for well under $10 just goes to show that you can dine on delicious local fare and still keep your travel budget in mind.
