Tex Barry’s Coney Island Hot Dogs in Attleboro, Mass., is certainly one-of-a-kind.
With a huge, cartoon-like hot dog sign above its old, red railcar structure, barely enough room inside to walk around and some of the lowest-priced meals you’ll find on the planet, Tex Barry’s is a hot dog lover’s paradise. One dollar and sixty cents will get you a hot dog or chili dog (just 20 cents more for a cheese dog). The dogs are absolutely phenomenal, perhaps the best we’ve sampled in Massachusetts!
Tex Barry’s also serves hamburgers for $2.25, cheeseburgers for $2.50 and amazing shoestring fries for $1.10. Talk about a value meal! When was the last time you dined out for this price?
On the grill are long rows of hot dogs with the staff expertly cooking each dog to consistent perfection — seems like they been doing this for so long that they could perform the task with their eyes closed.
Service is fast and friendly. The tiny diner-like atmosphere looks a bit worn, but that’s part of the charm. The place is quite clean, always bustling, and full of “local” conversation at the tables and counter area. I’d imagine being at Tex Barry’s is like going back to a dining scene from the 1950s.
The prices are certainly “retro,” too. It’s amazing to think that, say, a family of four, could have dinner out for around $10.00 — and a delicious one, at that.
