Heav’nly Donuts is aptly named.
This doughnut chain with locations in Massachusetts and New Hampshire clearly exceeds the supermarket types and standard doughnut shop versions. What magic they create in the rolling, glazing and hand-cutting process results in doughnuts that rank amongst the best we tried in New England.
Heav’nly Donuts makes 35 varieties of oversized doughnuts ranging from the unusual (double chocolate mousse, Bismark doughnuts) to the familiar (honey-glazed, chocolate-frosted). My favorite: the chocolate filled (pictured above) that overflows with chocolate cream filling!
What’s more, Heav’nly Donuts keeps the prices low — always a brownie point for the Thrifty New England Traveler and Foodie when traveling New England. Some of the “gourmet” doughnut shops that think they are really good often charge far more for products that aren’t as good as Heav’nly Donuts.
Although doughnuts remain the signature item at Heav’nly Donuts, they also offer muffins, bagels and croissants, pastries, squares, turnovers, sandwiches, coffee, tea and frozen drinks, I’d love to give you a review on these other offerings but I am happily stuck on the doughnuts, at this writing!
What really puts Heav’nly Donuts over the top, however, is the service, I have found staff to be personable, welcoming, professional and salt-of-the-earth. In other words, they embody the type of employee we expect at a local doughnut shop. We last tried the Haverhill, Mass. location at 55 Main St. in the Bradford neighborhood and had a fabulous overall experience with service and product.
I can’t recommend this place enough!
